The Peacock Theater (located in Linnanmäki, Helsinki) has been offering it’s services since the 1950’s in Helsinki and has been a central part of the theater scene in the city center.
In 2017, I had the chance to have an internship of three months with the theater group Uusi Iloinen Teatteri, or UiT for short.
I acted as an assistant sound technician to Antti Hämäläinen, the sound technician to the Finnish band Jean S.
As one of my first experiences in sound tech, this internship provided me with many crucial skills I wished to learn in the field.
Ranging from managing wireless microphone connections to mixing monitors for the bands and the stage actors, the tools I gained from the good folks at UiT have been invaluable ever since.
The skills I gained:
– Understanding and troubleshooting problems on a live setting
– Mixing monitors for a band and having an open communication with the theater group
– Preparing and setting wireless microphones along with the required antennae
– Hands on approach to a bigger production and a more active take on mixing
